JHDoes anyone know of a video on how to change the Air Filter without taking off the side panel?
robinshows both

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uGhP-UEKCg

For the benefit of those that do not have a shop manual, here are the directions to replace the air filter:
(1) Raise vehicle . . .
(2) Remove filter element by unsnapping clips from housing . . .
(3) If necessary, clean the inside of the air cleaner housing.
(4) Install new filter element.
(5) Place lid over air cleaner housing. Snap clips back in place.
Job took five minutes following above directions.

koolktyAfter watching the video, if you have a lift so you can easily work under the car, then maybe you could do this without removing the side panel. But if only lifted on jack stands I think this would be a lot more difficult especially if it is your first time doing it. Mine still has the original filter but I only have 7500 miles on it. Planning to try replacing the filter before I prep it for winter.

enzvoyI just changed mine and drove up my ramps and was able to go underneath and change it
JHThanks Guys. My garage guy had it on the lift and tried to remove without taking off side panel but was unsuccessful.

Guess I will give him your thoughts and see how we go forward.

Thanks again.

ClayDWhy don't you want to remove the side panel? Not criticizing, just curious.
garysssI don't think removing side panel helps.
CAT-A-TONICWhile yes you can jack the car up and get to the filter, what, three bolts and the panels off!! Not only that, once off the filter housing is right in front of you. And here's one other thing that you'll get out of taking the panel off. And that's you're being able to inspect all the surroundings for any potential problems that with the panel on you can't see all that well,or at all. Either way!!
ClayDPulling the panel made it very easy on my 97. Don't know how later models are.
prowlerstud74Hello. I just did mine so I can put the modified air filter. I did not jack the car up but I did have to remove the side panel. If you do not remove the side panel it would be a big pain. The side panel is super easy to remove. 3 Screws and its out.
JHThank you.
